School’s Out For Summer–And No, That’s Not Great News For Every Kid
Fun in the sun. Carefree days by the pool. What's not to like about summer for a kid? Well, hunger.
When school's out some kids simply don't eat. Without free or reduced-cost breakfasts and lunches provided at school—summer spells struggle for many families. The harsh reality is that summer fun takes a backseat to hunger.
The goal of our Summer Hunger campaign was to raise national awareness about childhood hunger, foster empathy for those struggling with hunger and to position Feeding America as the leader of the hunger-relief movement.
The work highlights what kids miss out on when one in six are struggling to find food. Centered around the rally cry—Summer Break Is Broken. Let’s fix it.
